Guidance for Applicants
Decisions to shortlist for BII posts are based on the information provided by candidates on the application form and covering letter. Please make sure that you answer all questions as clearly and fully as possible as this will help the shortlisting panel to judge whether you have the competencies BII is looking for and the abilities needed to carry out the job effectively.
Job descriptions are produced for every post, and circulated to potential candidates. Shortlisting will be carried out, using the criteria outlined in the recruitment advert and job description and from the candidate’s letter of application and application form. CVs can be submitted as supplementary information to the application form.
Letter of Application
The letter of application is key to BII’s shortlisting process. This should contain a brief career history and a description of an individual’s skills and attributes as the match the requirements of the post. Using examples of previous work, paid or voluntary, to confirm this experience in practice would be of benefit. A typed or word processed document is preferable.
Personal Details
Your application will be judged solely on merit irrespective of ethnic origin, race, colour, gender, disability, age, trade union activity, marital status, religious belief or sexual orientation. However, please complete your personal details clearly and accurately on the application form. This information is for contact purposes only. The equal opportunities section of the application form will be removed before shortlisting starts.
Present or Most Recent Employment
Referring to the job description and advertisement, please identify current key duties and responsibilities of present or most recent posts that reflect the requirements of the post you’re applying for.
- We will acknowledge your application
- Your application form will be treated in confidence and will only be made available to:
the selection panel and to staff involved in the management or administration of the process - We aim to tell you whether you have been shortlisted within two weeks of the closing date.
- Shortlisting will be carried out by assessing the evidence on application forms against the selection criteria.
The final selection decision will be made by the selection interview panel (normally consisting of a minimum of 2 members), from the evidence they have obtained from your application form, interview and any other identified means of assessment against the selection criteria, taking into account the merits of your fellow candidates.
At your interview you will be told when you will hear the final outcome of your application. Under the Data Protection Act 1998, all individuals have the right to know what information is held about them on computer and, from 2001, on some manual records. PPARC is in full compliance with the terms of this legislation, including the disclosure of information to third parties.
