Who's who at BII
Tim Hulme ABII, Chief Executive
Tim sees a real opportunity to re-shape BII as a leading professional body, delivering a best in class service. “Members should be clear that we represent them and their views in influencing Government policy and importantly other key stakeholders in the industry. It’s important that BII looks, to the next generation of members and establishes a credible route to market for young people who aspire to work in this great industry”. Tim sees the role of BII as raising the reputation of the industry as a valued career.

Henry Bennett ABII, Director of Finance
Henry is responsible for directing and controlling the financial management and strategy for BII and it's group of companies. He is also responsible for risk management and compliance to ensure BII meets it statutory obligations.
Tim Burrows ABII, Director of Education and Training
Tim's role in the BIIAB is to look at the way forward for training, and how BII can best serve it's members and the wider industry as a whole. Tim is also responsible for ensuring BII's training works to sustain the future needs of all those working in the licensed hospitality sector.
Denise Thomson ABII, Deputy Director BIIAB
Denise develops and maintains the quality assurance function (BII Excellence Programme) within BII and BIIAB. She is responsible for the approval and ongoing monitoring of centres. Denise is also responsible for handling complaints and appeals, and manages the Centre Monitors and the Call Centre.
Joanna Buston ABII, Marketing Manager
A key part of Jo’s role as the Marketing Manager is to work with membership to improve communications and reinforce the benefits, cost-savings and business opportunities. From apprenticeships to Licensee of the Year Award, Jo plays a key role, alongside her other BII colleagues, in driving member benefits, awareness and business support.
Vicky Jackson ABII, Head of Membership Services
Vicky is responsible for the overall management of the Membership Department including managing the administration of member recruitment, renewals, telesales, customer services, membership literature, membership initiatives, and regional liaison.
Tara Ovington ABII, Corporate Events Manager
Tara Ovington is corporate events manager for the BII and, as such, is responsible for the Annual Lunch, roadshows and Apprenticeship Summit.
BII events are about communication, making contacts, discovering new approaches and innovations, getting advice and support from peers and experts. It’s a live network that brings to life every element of the BII - its services, standards and support.

John Melia CBII, Client Development Director and Alice Cardwell-Hodges ABII, International Development Director
John and Alice work with breweries, independent trainers, pub companies and colleges to promote professionalism in the sector through qualifications. They also link into Police, Magistrates and Local Government on the key issues of Social Responsibility and Crime & Disorder Partnerships. They play an important part in helping to develop qualifications.
Gill Cooper ABII, Financial Controller
Gill is responsible for the financial management of BII and all its subsidiaries and to ensure that BII complies with all statutory obligations in respect of auditing, accounting and company and charity law.

Roland Matthews FBII, Centre Monitor Manager, Verena Surtees FBII Centre Monitor
Roland and Verena are responsible for conducting advisory, approval monitoring and assessment inspection visits and reporting back findings to BIIAB.

Simon Jackson ABII, National Director, Best Bar None
Simon’s role in the BII is the development of Best Bar None, the national award scheme dedicated to promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises. “the night-time economy is an important part of any town or city and with the support of BBN, local partnerships can improve their standards, reduce the issues sometimes associated with licensed premises and at the same time recognise the achievements of the many professionals involved in the industry”
