BIIAB and IOL announce new partnership

18-May-2006

BIIAB, the awarding body of BII, and the Institute of Licensing today announced its new long-term partnership to develop specific qualifications for professional licensing practitioners.

The new relationship with IOL will extend the joint work between the two organisations last year when BIIAB launched the National Certificate for Licensing Practitioners in July 2005. BIIAB and IOL will be developing a range of qualifications; the first tranche is expected to cover the new gambling legislation due to come into force in September 2007, crime prevention in licensed premises and community safety.

Cathie Smith, Director of BIIAB, said: “We have been working with local authorities in the past on qualifications, however this new long term relationship with the IOL will enable us the develop the kind of qualifications really required by this sector. Legislation and responsibilities handled by licensing practitioners are complex and by developing the type of qualifications BIIAB is renowned for; industry-led and fit for purpose, we hope to expand the knowledge and expertise held by licensing authorities.”

Jeffrey Leib, vice-chair of the Institute of Licensing said:  “One of the Institute’s key objectives is the education and dissemination of information relating to licensing.  We are pleased to enter into a long-term agreement with the market leaders in providing training qualifications, which will be designed to promote and enhance the professionalism of licensing practitioners in local government and private practice.  Both organisations are about raising professional standards and we very much look forward to working with BIIAB on this in the years to come.”
