BII Scholarship Awarded

30-May-2006

Jami-Laura Clements, a student in the sixth form of The Licensed Victuallers’ School in Ascot, has been awarded a BII and William Grant scholarship to help her complete her sixth form studies, and to prepare her for the future.

BII Director of Membership Steve Howe came along to the Ascot school to interview the students who had been shortlisted for the BII scholarship, and with Director of Education Mr Ian Mullins and headmaster Mr Graham Best also on the interview panel, the candidates were certainly put through their paces, answering questions about their ambitions and aspirations, and their views on the future of the licensed trade.

As an organisation, BII exists to promote high standards of professionalism throughout the licensed trade retail section and to encourage new entrants to the industry, and thanks to the BII & William Grant scholarship, Jami-Laura will be sponsored as she is fast-tracked through the process of obtaining her personal licence, along with the opportunities afforded by work-experience placements and the benefit of financial support as she completes her sixth form education.

Jami-Laura was understandably delighted at the announcement of the award of the scholarship. She said: “It’s brilliant news, because I really want to go into pub management, and long-term, I’d like to run a whole chain of my own pubs and restaurants.”
