Positive feedback on new BIIAB licensed trade training

14-Jun-2006

Trainers in Scotland have responded to the pilots of BIIAB’s Scottish Award in Responsible Alcohol Retail (SARAR), saying that it offers real value and benefit to the licensed trade in Scotland.

BIIAB, the wholly owned awarding body for BII, has been piloting its new award which is designed for anyone, including bar staff and supermarket cashiers, who work on any licensed retail premises from pubs to convenience stores and is involved in the sale of alcohol.

The qualification provides essential knowledge and understanding of the duties of alcohol retailers authorised by a licensee to retail alcohol responsibly on their licensed premises

Cathie Smith, Director of BIIAB, said, “BIIAB is aiming to offer an award that is designed specifically for the Scottish licensed trade and meets the needs of personnel authorised to sell alcohol. The feedback on the SARAR pilots has been fantastic and we are looking forward to formally launching the Award in July.

She added, “The real benefit of the SARAR is its flexibility, it can be delivered at a training venue or by distance learning self study with examination by telephone. With the changes in the licensing law in Scotland, this award will be invaluable to anyone working in the licensed trade.”

SARAR will be offered at BIIAB approved training centres across Scotland. Visit www.biiab.org for further information on your local approved training provider.
