In addition, Janet Hood : LLB: Dip. LP: ABII, Head of BII Scotland, will be speaking on the current licensing situation in Scotland.

Andy McNeill, BIIAB Qualifications Manager, said, “This is an exciting opportunity to learn more about the new BIIAB qualifications developed specifically for the Scottish licensed trade. We have been running extensive pilots on both SARAR and NCDS (Scotland) and, now is the time to learn more about these essential qualifications and their place in the industry.

He added, “This will be a unique opportunity to hear from those providers who have been at the forefront of these developments and to share their experiences.”

Both qualifications will be officially launched in the autumn.

Notes to editors

BIIAB Scottish Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing (SARAR)

The qualification provides essential knowledge and understanding of the duties of alcohol retailers engaged by a licensee to sell alcohol responsibly on their licensed premises.

The SARAR is available in two versions, one for staff involved with the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises and one for the sale of alcohol for consumption off the premises. The examination contains two compulsory questions that ensure every holder of the qualification fully understands the legislation concerning under age sales and serving to people who are drunk. The examination for both versions is available by either paper examination or telephone assessment. This means the candidate is able to take the examination without leaving the business premises.

BIIAB National Certificate for Door Supervisors (Scotland)

Those who work as a door steward in Scotland after September 2007 will need to have a licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). To obtain such a licence, applicants will need to possess a recognised door supervisor qualification. BIIAB, in conjunction with City & Guilds, offer the BIIAB National Certificate for Door Supervisors (Scotland). To achieve this qualification, learners must complete two examinations.
