Members alerted to scam
27-Nov-2003
Members should be extra vigilant following an official warning from the Association of Licensed Retailers (ALMR) and the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII).
Fraudulent letters are once again being sent to pubs and bars from an organisation describing itself as the "Data Protection Agency Service". The organisation name and return address vary considerably and the list of these is available by clicking on the following link:
The letter invites the completion of a form and the payment of £95.00 to "commence registration" under the Data Protection Act. Registration under the Data Protection Act is £35.00 NOT £95.00 as requested.
Members are strongly advised to ignore the letter and make no payment.
Details on the Data Protection Act and your obligations can be obtained from the Information Commissioner at:
The Commissioner's Office
