BII comments on alcohol related crime figures
09-Nov-2006
John McNamara, BII Chief Executive said, “These crime results come as no surprise to me. Scaremongers have been grasping at every high profile event from New Year’s Eve to the World Cup for the time when mayhem would strike. Each time they have been disappointed as the licensed trade has again showed its commitment to social responsibility.
“There are still alcohol related problems in town centres but I see the licensed trade as a big part of the solution not the problem. Street corner strategies such as the BIDs scheme, Pubwatches, and Best Bar None have shown the way to foster a positive night time economy. Both London and Birmingham have areas of high density drinking establishments and to see such as significant fall in the alcohol related crime figure in these areas is reassuring.”
