BII Scotland membership increases by 50% in 12 months

17-Nov-2006

BII Scotland has seen a 50% increase in membership since 2005. BII Scotland opened a dedicated office in Edinburgh in 2005 and under the lead of Janet Hood, former Depute Clerk to the Licensing Board for Aberdeenshire South Licensing Board, the profile of the organisation has soared.

BII Scotland believes that qualifications and professional membership raise the positive status of the licensed trade at a time when there is increasing criticism around the sale of alcohol in Scotland.

Janet Hood, said, “I am delighted in the huge rise in BII membership in Scotland. BII is the professional body for the licensed retail sector and this steep rise in membership goes to show the value Scottish licensees place in the organisation. The trade is facing a major licensing upheaval in the next 12 months and BII pledges to be there every step of the way to help licensees and their businesses.

She added, “We cannot be complacent, I hope to see this increase continuing over the next 12 months as BII becomes even more widely known. BIIAB, the awarding body of BII, has launched an extensive portfolio of qualifications specifically developed for the Scottish licensed trade and we are working closely with the Scottish Executive to ensure we continue to meet the needs of the sector.”
