BII calls for guidance on smoking ban as date is announced

BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, welcomes the announcement of the date of the first day of the smoking ban. The licensed trade now has a date to work towards, however this is only one part of the jigsaw. We need to have the guidance and regulations as soon as possible to ensure that licensees are in possession of all the information to plan for the implementation date of 1 July 2007.

We hope that the Government will learn from the negative impact of late publication of the guidance for the Licensing Act 2003. The licensed trade want to make this as painless as possible in business terms and to be able to up hold the law on their premises. I urge the Government to get the guidance out now so the licensed trade can make a success of the ban.

BII will be running a Roadshow in 15 locations across England and Wales to inform both BII members and other licensees on all aspects of the ban and its impact.
