BII to speak at Promoting Responsible Drinking conference - Wednesday, 31st January 2007

16-Jan-2007

Steve Howe, Director of Membership from BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, will be addressing the Promoting Responsible Drinking conference at the Inmarsat Conference Centre, London on the issue of tackling under age drinking.

Steve said, “It is important to show just how much the licensed trade is doing to tackle under age drinking. BII works through its 17,500 members to raise professionalism and social responsibility of the licensed retail sector. Our awarding body, BIIAB, is the leading awarding body for the sector and offers a number of qualifications that support the trade in the fight against underage sales. As an organisation we also actively support the Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS). I will be exploring these solutions and others at the Promoting Responsible Drinking Conference on the 31st January.”

This timely one-day conference will consider the impact of the Licensing Act and Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy, consider the increasing concerns over binge drinking, preventing alcohol related crime and disorder, and discuss how to promote safe, responsible drinking through strong local partnerships and better management of town centres.

This conference will also explore the impact of drinking on the nation’s health and discuss how to raise awareness to create a better understanding of the dangers of drinking and alcohol abuse, through campaigns such as the Home Office and Department of Health’s ‘Know Your Limits’ initiative.
