PASS chairman given honour by BII
30-Apr-2007
BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, today announced Robert Humphreys as this year’s recipient of the Bill Hannon Award.
The Award recognises the hard work that goes on behind the scenes for BII. It is awarded to those who give their time on a voluntary basis and who are very much the unsung heroes and heroines of BII’s success – without these people BII would certainly not have become the force it is in today’s industry.
Robert Humphreys has been an active supporter of BII and an ally in its activities in promoting social responsibility and good practice within the industry for many years.
He holds the high profile role as Secretary of the largest Parliamentary interest group, the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group. He is also the unpaid Chairman of the Proof of Age Standards Scheme Board (the PASS scheme) which has played a major part in delivering a reliable form of identity for many young people and has helped all licensees in providing certainty that the identification offered is valid and has been properly audited.
John McNamara, BII Chief Executive, said, “Robert Humphreys is an unstinting champion of the industry and has been a supporter of BII and our members for many years. He works tirelessly on the PASS scheme and performs his Chairmanship with clarity, humour, common sense, energy and enthusiasm and has helped to steer the organisation through its crucial phase of development.
He added, “It is true to say that his drive and enthusiasm has ensured the scheme’s ongoing high profile and success and, he is a worthy recipient of the honour of winning a Bill Hannon Award.”
Notes to Editors:
The Bill Hannon Award was created by SFI following the death in 1995 of Bill Hannon who was at that time Chairman of Surrey Free Inns. This award was established in Bill Hannon’s name as a tribute to his contribution to the industry and influence over the sector, which has indeed affected many individuals here today.
