‘Lucky’ Glasgow barperson scoops top BII Scotland award

15-May-2007

Josie McCready of Glasgow’s Horse Shoe Bar was named as BII Scotland’s Barperson of the Year at BII Scotland’s Annual Ball held on 3 May 2007 at the Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel. The competition was sponsored by S&N Pub Enterprises.

Josie, aged 25, has worked in the industry since she was 18 and wants to eventually manage a large pub within five years, ultimately ending up with her own freehouse in Scotland.

Josie said, “People come to the pub for many reasons – but I want every customer, new or regular, who comes in to see everything looking clean, professional and well presented. The Horse Shoe Bar is a Glasgow institution so I want it to always look its best.”

Donald McLauchlan, Chairman of BII Scotland, said, “It was a close run competition however Josie, who is a full time member of bar staff at the Horse Shoe Bar, holds a good general understanding of the responsibilities associated with the high standards of pub and bar work.

He added, “The licensed trade in Scotland is an exciting sector to work in and I am always delighted to see the calibre of the entrants to this competition as they represent the future of the trade in Scotland.”

The other finalists were:

Andy Martin (25), Candy Bar, Edinburgh

Ross Hutcheson (23) Seven Kings, Dunfermline

Kerry Chisholm (25) Oblo, Eyemouth

Mary Dowlman (24) Rick’s, Edinburgh

Colette Lynch (22) Granary Bar, Glasgow
