BIIAB first with National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders
BIIAB - the BII's wholly owned awarding body, has pulled out all the stops to ensure that the new BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders is the first qualification available to the market to support the launch of the new licensing regime.
From the 7th February 2005, the date announced by Government as the 1st appointed day of the Licensing Act 2003, all retailers selling alcohol to the public will for the first time be required by law to have an accredited licensing qualification in order to apply for a personal licence.
The National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders has been developed by BIIAB, the leading awarding body of qualifications for the licensed retail sector. Pilots of the qualification took place in 70 training centres throughout England and Wales, and around 700 candidates from every sector of the licensed retail industry attended a one-day pilot course and took the examination.
Cathie Smith, Director of BIIAB said “We take nothing for granted at BIIAB and know that implementation of the licensing regime will be a dynamic process. Safer environments are key to successful operations in the new world. Training and qualifications will support the industry in achieving this.”
As well as the National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders, the BIIAB offers a range of qualifications which underpin the high standards of social responsibility and legal compliance, expected from individual operators selling alcohol to the public. Included in the BIIAB portfolio, are business building initiatives that support both small and large companies in licensed hospitality and retail.
