BIIAB Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders Launched

27-Sep-2007

The BIIAB Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH) was launched at the BII Scotland/Law Society Licensing Conference on 25th September and is now available by traditional paper examination and, in the very near future, online, from BIIAB approved centres in Scotland.

The Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 requires that anyone authorising the sale of alcohol to the public, whether in a pub, night club, off-licence or supermarket, must hold a personal licence.  Personal licences are granted through local Licensing Boards.  Applicants for licences must prove that they have achieved a licensing qualification such as the BIIAB SCPLH.

The BIIAB SCPLH fully meets the criteria laid down by the Scottish Government to give it the required status under the Act.  Piloting with all the key companies in licensed retail, has ensured its currency and suitability to support the industry and its regulators into the new regime.

Cathie Smith, director of BIIAB, said, “The SCPLH can be accessed through our network of approved centres.  As added value to support the industry through this time of change, successful BIIAB candidates will be given free provisional BII membership for six months.  This will keep individuals informed as to how the new Act will impact on their businesses now and into the future.”
