BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, today welcomed the results of the Tackling Underage Sales of Alcohol Campaign 2007 (TUSAC).
11-Oct-2007
John McNamara, BII Chief Executive said, “These results show a marked improvement from the last campaign with around 6% less premises failing.
“It is important to view these results in context. The premises targeted were defined as problem premises and were perceived as active in persistent sales to under age customers. As an industry we do not want these kinds of premises operating and bringing the responsible trade into disrepute.
“Underage sales are a battle that the industry continues to face but through staff training and sector specific qualifications we can ensure that the majority of licensed premises continue to operate in a responsible manner and refuse sale to under age customers.
“BIIAB has seen over 2000 candidates go through its Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing since its launch in 2005 and with the compulsory section in the BIIAB National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders, our qualifications ensure that all the bases are covered for the licensed trade in regard to the information needed to combat under age sales.”
