Responsible Alcohol Retailing Campaign gets more staff qualified

BIIAB, the leading awarding body for the licensed retail sector will be putting its weight behind licensed retailers across the country in the fight against underage sales and binge drinking.

As part of the BII Responsible Alcohol Retailing Week, BIIAB approved training centres across England and Wales will be running training leading to the BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing (ARAR) on 14th November. It is expected that over 200 people across the country will be taking the exam on this date.

Cathie Smith, Director of BIIAB, said, “The aim of the BII Responsible Alcohol Retailing Week is to raise the profile of the licensed retail sector, its positive impact and also to emphasise the work of responsible alcohol retailers. As part of this year’s event, BII has involved its awarding body’s approved training centres to get more responsible alcohol retailers out into the community. Sessions of the Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing will be taking place across the country.

She added, “The focus of the campaign this year is Liverpool and over 40 people will be sitting the BIIAB ARAR exam in that city alone on the 14th November. I am delighted that so many people are taking their responsibilities seriously and passing this exam helps ensure that people authorised to sell alcohol have knowledge of the law and the impacts of alcohol on the community.”

The ARAR provides essential knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of alcohol retailers authorised by a personal licence holder to sell alcohol. It will enable those who complete the qualification to act within the law to support the designated premises supervisor to retail alcohol responsibly on their licensed premises.
