BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, today announced the winners of its prestigious training awards, the NITAs, at the Globe Theatre in
The BII NITAs are the only nationally recognised training awards for the licensed retail sector and the competition is stiff.
The BII NITA’s revised judging process is now in its fourth year and judges were genuinely impressed with the overall improvement in the quality of entries. This year, judges visited a record number of short-listed entrants. Each of these finalists is assessed by a two person judging panel – one judge is an experienced industry practitioner, and the other from an academic background. Typically, judges are experts in the licensed retail sector and in the field of training and development. Judging involves close examination of the entrants’ training practice and it is hard not to be impressed with the general quality of some industrial training practice.
Professor Conrad Lashley CMBII, chairman of the judging panel said, “As Chair of the panel of judges for the BII NITA’s, I am impressed by the clear improvements in training and the quality of entries for the industry’s training awards again this year. It is becoming increasingly difficult to arrive at a short-list of finalists in some award categories because there are so many excellent entries. The ‘Innovation in training’ and ‘Professional trainer of the year’ categories are increasingly popular categories and demonstrate some benchmark practice.”
John McNamara CMBII, BII Chief Executive, said, “The awards recognise and reward training excellence in the trade, and winning a BII NITA is the ultimate endorsement of training excellence. As an industry we are one of the most qualified and it is wonderful to see so many companies putting so much into their training programmes. All shortlisted entries receive feedback and this enables them to improve their training offering even more in the future.”
