BII Roadshows Offer Better Business Tips For The Trade

04-Mar-2008

In Association with Britvic

As the licensed retail trade faces its toughest times yet, BII is running a series of half day ‘Better Business’ roadshows, offering advice and guidance from a number of key players in the industry on how to save money, increase profits and be one step ahead of the competition in this increasingly challenging climate.

The roadshows are taking place between 13th March and 10th June in seven well-placed locations throughout England and Wales. Attendance is low cost and open to BII members (£20) and non-members (£25) alike. The events will be invaluable for those running a business in the licensed trade, including pub landlords, restaurant managers and hotel owners.

The packed agenda includes presentations by event sponsors Britvic on how to realise the true profit-making potential of soft drinks; Booker on pub food growth and where to make profit and Matthew Clark on how to make best use of wines to maximise return. BII Business Doctor Trevor Brown will also be on-hand to advise on how to give your business a health check and identify ways in which to save money and increase margins.

An award-winning personality chef will take the stand at each event to tender their advice on menu choices, catering for special diets and cooking with the best seasonal and local produce. Each roadshow will finish with lunch, preceded by a Q&A session in which audience members can pose their most pressing questions to any of the speakers on the day.

The ‘Better Business’ events follow highly successful roadshows previously run by the licensed retail sector’s professional body on the new licensing act and the smoking ban and have been devised as a result of BII member requests. BII asked its members what they wanted in the way of support this year and the unanimous response was for information and assistance on how to survive in the face of increasing challenges. Many recognise food as a way to replace income lost as a result of the smoking ban and they wanted advice on improving their food offering and how to be one step ahead of industry trends.

BII Chief Executive John McNamara commented: “BII is here to support its members and the licensed retail sector as a whole in any way we can. We asked our members how we could help this year and, in response to their requests, we have provided a comprehensive resource of information and ideas to help them survive the current climate. Attendance at these events is a must for any savvy business owner or manager in the industry – and with admission at less than £30, they’re excellent value for money too.”

The roadshow is being supported by National Pubwatch, ALMR and FLVA. The four personality chefs taking it in turns to present at the roadshows are Richard Macey, Paul Clerehugh, Andrew Coath and Ben Bartlett. Each attendee will leave with a goody bag of useful freebies including menu suggestions from the celebrity chefs, information on how to match food with the right wines and, importantly, a ‘calculate your break even point’ CD worth over £60 from BII Business Doctor Trevor Brown.
