BIIBAS Accreditation For Charles Wells Pub Company And Trust Inns

01-Jul-2008

Charles Wells Pub Company and Trust Inns are the latest organisations to have their codes of practice accredited by BII Benchmarking and Accreditation Services (BIIBAS).

The BIIBAS scheme was created in early 2007 by BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, to assess and independently benchmark the clarity of pub company codes for prospective and current leaseholders or tenants.

Charles Wells Ltd was established in 1876 and is a leading name within the licensed trade. Whilst respected for maintaining its rich heritage for well over a century, the company is known for its forward-thinking approach to helping licensees create a great pub experience. The Charles Wells code of practice gives clear and detailed assurances of the support and procedures affecting all of its tenants and lessees. A representative of the BIIBAS benchmarking committee commented that the process of assessing the Charles Wells code was very thorough but rewarding.

In contrast to the longevity of Charles Wells, Trust Inns is a relative newcomer to the industry, created 15 years ago. The company operates circa 600 tenanted outlets across the UK under the watchful eye of managing director Brian King, the respected former Greenalls director.

The Trust Inns code of practice includes a commitment to £60 a barrel on nearly all beers and ciders delivered and the company’s procedure for rent reviews displays a clear undertaking to fair practice.

Steve Howe, director of membership for BII, commented: “It’s been a pleasure working with Charles Wells Pub Company and Trust Inns on benchmarking their codes of practice. Yet again, we’ve seen two great examples of pub companies investing considerable time and effort to establish codes which clearly and concisely set out their business proposition.”

The BIIBAS scheme is administered by two committees: the Steering Committee, which sets the criteria, and the Benchmarking Committee, which judges a code against the criteria. Each code is rigorously examined and assessed for transparency, clarity, honesty and openness. This brings the total number of pub company codes accredited under the scheme to seven, with others in the pipeline.
