Head of BII Scotland announced

22-Jun-2005

The BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, today announced the appointment of its Head of BII Scotland.

Janet Hood, the former Depute Clerk to the Licensing Board for Aberdeenshire South Licensing Board, will be taking up the position from the 4th July and brings a huge wealth of experience to the position.

In this role she will be supporting Paul Barton, Chairman of BII Scotland Region and will be helped by the head office and regional support teams.

Janet will “hit the ground running” on the 4th of July by attending the first meeting of Scotland’s National Licensing Forum. Invitations to sit on this forum are highly sought after and Janet intends to make a real impact on behalf of BII Scotland.

One of her first tasks will be to finalise the location of the BII Scotland office, already confirmed to be located in Edinburgh. Its location in Edinburgh means that Janet and her team will be close to the Scottish Parliament and have easy access to MSPs in order to influence the policy affecting Scottish licensees.

Janet’s remit will also include the future of membership of the professional body.

The BII Scotland will also be pushing out a number of BIIAB qualifications developed specifically for the Scottish market.

Janet Hood, new Head of BII Scotland, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been appointed to this post. I have admired the work of the BII for a number of years and have actively promoted the development and uptake of the Scottish Licensees’  Certificate, which I believe is the best training package for incoming licensees, managers and Board Members.

She added, “I have had a wonderful career in local government spanning some 21 years, focussing mainly on licensing, environmental and planning law, and have been afforded tremendous opportunities for working with licensees and their staff to try to ensure best practice not only for them but also for the Board.  I believe that together we forged strong and effective working relationships which enabled the business of the licensed trade to flourish successfully in South Aberdeenshire to the benefit of licensees and the general public alike.

Ms Hood, concluded, “I hope to work closely with the trade and regulators across Scotland to promote best practice, good training and effective management of licensed premises in the future and look forward to starting my new career in July.”

Janet will be speaking at the Smoking in Public Places Conference on the 20 September 2005, which is being held at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. The conference will provide an opportunity for those with an interest in the implemantation of the legislation to discuss and debate the workings of the legislation.
