'FOOD FOR PROFIT'
TEMPTING FREE REGIONAL EVENT HELPS BOOST LOCAL PRODUCE IN LICENSED RETAILING
The British Institute of Innkeeping’s (BII) South West region has organised a tantalising event for all those involved in licensed retailing in Devon and Cornwall and the surrounding areas, with the aim of promoting sustainable economic business through the use of local produce in the trade.
The event, which will be held at The Jamaica Inn, Bolventor (just off the A30), on Tuesday, January 7, 2003, is being supported by the Objective One funded Taste of the West and Cornwall’s family run St Austell Brewery Co. Ltd and is open to all, BII members and non-members alike.
The ‘Food for Profit’ day will demonstrate new and exciting options for menus and presenting ideas intent on attracting new customers. A number of talented local chefs will be giving cookery demonstrations - including award-winning chef, Gareth Eddy (already nicknamed the ‘young pretender’ by one national travel editor!) from Padstow’s most popular up and coming restaurant, ‘Pescadou’ - owned by St Austell Brewery.
The day will focus on using fresh local produce in innovative ways in order to provide a unique culinary experience to be found only in Cornwall and Devon. To support the day a number of Quality Food producers from Devon and Cornwall will be on hand to provide samples and information. On the drinks side there will be taster sessions based on the BII’s Advanced Qualifications in Wine Retail and the Cellar & Beer Quality Management certificate.
Representatives from the BII will also be available to chat about qualifications and membership – and Business Link will share information about current grants and funding available to Licensees. Guest speakers include James Staughton, managing director of St Austell Brewery who will be offering a corporate perspective on how to increase profit through the marketing and presentation of food. He will be followed by John McNamara, chief executive of the BII who will take the stage to cover the latest developments in licensing legislation. Food from the various demonstrations will form the basis of refreshments for the day but, delegates will also be able to purchase alternative choices from The Jamaica Inn all day.
The really good news is that there is no cost to attend this event and it is expected to attract a large number of delegates from across the South West, so booking is recommended to reserve your place.
