BII holds five-region event at Cheltenham
Licensees in five of the British Institute of Innkeeping’s (BII) regions are in for a treat on October 30 when the biggest regional members’ event ever held takes place at Cheltenham. The Central, West Midlands, Welsh, Thames Valley and Wessex regions have come together to put on the event at Cheltenham Racecourse, which will include a mini trade fair, a three-course lunch, two top after lunch speakers and an afternoon of racing.
Guests are invited to the racecourse from 11am, when the trade fair opens. This will be followed by a welcome from Brian Maughan, acting chief executive of the BII, and a three-course lunch. Following on from lunch the keynote speaker is founder and executive chairman of pub chain JD Wetherspoon, Tim Martin – known for his controversial stance against parts of the licensing reform proposals.
He will be followed by a speaker from the Royal Bank of Scotland, which will be promoting its new Direct Business Cheque Account at the event. The scheme offers free business banking for BII members. Following the serious part of the day, licensees can try their luck during the afternoon, with an exciting afternoon’s racing at the famous Cheltenham Racecourse.
Lisa Harlow ABII, the BII’s regional development manager, said: “Whenever we put on events for members, there is a very clear focus on good business and fun – and the Cheltenham event mixes the two perfectly.
“The trade fair and presentation from the Royal Bank of Scotland will offer money-saving deals for members. Tim Martin will offer an insight into how he has built Wetherspoon’s into one of the best-known pub companies in the UK, and then the afternoon offers a chance to relax and socialise over the racing. I hope we will see lots of members and non-members from all five regions – it’s going to be an event to remember.” ../more over
