BII signs up its first Far East member
30-Aug-2001
The British Institute of Innkeeping has signed up its first member in the
Far East. The new recruit is Colin MacDonald MBII who runs Father
Flanagan’s and Molly Malone’s – two Irish pubs in Singapore.
Colin made contact with the BII after someone showed him a copy of its members’ magazine biiBUSINESS. He contacted editor Andrew Palmer to enter the Best Pub Website competition and has now signed up as a full member.
Colin said: “Many of the issues covered in biiBUSINESS, and which the industry faces in the UK in general, are also common to Singapore. We certainly share many of the aspirations of UK licensees – and the principles of success are the same in both countries.
“I’ll certainly be proudly displaying a BII plaque at my pubs and hopefully this could be the first step to forming a Far East Chapter! I’d like to look at developing further ties with the BII – perhaps even doing some staff exchanges.”
Dave Miners ABII, head of membership recruitment, said: “We welcome all new members – whatever country they’re in. It’s particularly pleasing to see that the BII’s message is winging its way around the globe. The only thing is that all our assessors are fighting over going to do Colin’s assessment!” ends]
