JD Wetherspoon signs up for a biiCAREERS platinum package

29-Aug-2001

JD Wetherspoon has shown its commitment to attracting the best recruits for its pubs by signing up for a platinum package with biiCAREERS – the careers initiative run by the British Institute of Innkeeping. The package includes, among other elements, an enhanced entry on the Barzone website, which currently receives anything up to 250,000 hits each month.

The platinum package cost the company £7,500. As well as the Barzone entry, supported by an ad banner on the website, JD Wetherspoon also gets contact with a number of colleges, involvement in all biiCAREERS events and participation in driving biiCAREERS forward by sitting on the steering committee and recruitment think tanks. The company will also be featured in a double page spread in the biiCAREERS magazine, which is distributed to all schools, universities, employment agencies and careers information centres.

JD Wetherspoon director of personnel and training Su Beacham said: “We fully appreciate the work of biiCAREERS and are pleased to support it both financially and by providing speakers and venues to help recruit new talent to our own company, and the industry in general.

“Staff recruitment is still a key issue for us – and every other pub operator. Anything which helps to address this problem is a bonus – and biiCAREERS has proved that using fun and lively events and publications is the best way to show that this is a great industry to work in and one with a serious, fast-moving, career path.”

Richard Parker, biiCAREERS manager, said: “JD Wetherspoon is recognised as being one of the leaders in our industry when it comes to training and recruitment – and its commitment to biiCAREERS is further proof of that.

“As an industry we are capable of doing so much more if we pull together to attract high calibre recruits – but the industry often seems reluctant to put its money where its mouth is. I hope other companies will follow Wetherspoon’s example and support this invaluable careers initiative.

“There is a whole range of activity planned for the coming months including a new copy of the biiCAREERS magazine, several Industry Open Days, and numerous regional speeches and careers fairs. I would love to talk to any pub company that wants to get involved in this exciting recruitment drive.”
