Angela Facey FBII wins the Bill Hannon Award
03-Aug-2001
Anglea Facey FBII of the White Horse in Husbourne Crawley, Bedfordshire, has
been announced as the winner of the 2001 Bill Hannon Award. The award,
which is given by the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII), recognises the hard
work that goes on behind the scenes at a local level, promoting both the BII and
the licensed retail sector in general. Angela will receive a cheque for £500 from SFI Group.
Angela is an excellent example of a BII member. She joined in July 1997, was upgraded to a Fellow in July 1999, and is active in the Central Region both as secretary and regional press officer – a role through which she proudly promotes the image of the BII and the licensed retail profession. She leads by example too, having taken three of the BII’s Advanced Qualifications, which has made a real difference to the profitability of her Whitbread Pub Partnership. The award was made at the BII’s AGM on July 23, 2001.
BII director Mary Curnock Cook OBE said: “Angela is a real credit to the BII. Our mission is to help our members run more successful business and Angela has used the tools the BII provides to make this happen. By putting so much into her region too, she has got a lot out in return. She is a very worthy winner of the Bill Hannon Award and probably the youngest person every to receive it.” ends]
Notes to Editors:
1. The Bill Hannon Award was created by SFI, a pub company, following the death in 1995 of Bill Hannon, the company’s then chairman. It was put in place as a permanent memorial to a man who had a huge influence on the industry.
2. The British Institute of Innkeeping is the professional body for the licensed trade. It has around 15,500 members and last year awarded nearly 60,000 qualifications. Its mission is to promote high standards of professionalism throughout the licensed retail sector and to provide information, skills and qualifications to help members run successful businesses.
