Key Government figure as principal guest at BII Annual Luncheon

17-Apr-2003

John Grogan MP, a leading voice on trade issues within government, will give the key note speech at this year’s British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) Annual Luncheon.

Mr Grogan chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group’s licensing committee and has been active in fighting the trade’s corner during the ongoing debate on the Government’s licensing reform proposals.

He is due to address over 1,050 licensees and key industry figures in London on May 13, at what has become the definitive annual pub trade lunch event.

His key note address is expected to offer an update on the latest developments regarding the proposed changes to the licensing system as well as touching on other key issues in which he is involved – including concern over the Chancellor’s decision to raise beer duty rates in his recent Budget.

The luncheon, which has been sponsored by drinks giant Diageo for the last 14 years, has become a must-attend event for all key trade figures. This year’s luncheon, which sold out in record time, will take place at Le Meridien Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane.

John McNamara, Chief Executive of the BII, said: "We are very privileged this year to have John Grogan MP as our keynote speaker. John has been working closely with the industry on many issues over the last few years and the work he has done on licensing reform has been invaluable.

"The speed at which this year’s lunch event sold out is testament to the quality of the guest list and the value that most industry figures attach to it as a key networking opportunity."
