Training centre opens its doors to professional barstaff
17-Apr-2003
InnDispensable, a training company for licensed retailing qualifications, is opening its doors to all barstaff wishing to sit an exam in Customer Drinks Service (CDS). The CDS is a key unit leading to the Professional Barperson’s Qualification (PBQ) - a qualification offered by BIIAB, the wholly owned awarding body of the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII).
InnDispenable is responding to clients’ needs to attend a training centre in close proximity to their pub or business. Phil Davison, Managing Director of InnDispensable explained: "Licensees are always keen to further their career by taking the professional qualifications offered by BIIAB. We hope that by offering the CDS exam in all of our centres across the UK, rather than just in one, this will offer a more efficient and convenient service to our clients."
Inndispensable, an approved training centre of BIIAB, already offers a wide variety of courses and examinations for those in licensed retailing, including the National Certificate for Licensees (NCL). Members of the public or corporate clients will be able to sit the CDS examination on the same day after the NCL course has taken place.
For further information on sitting the CDS exam, simply ring for your nearest venue and available dates on freephone 0800 074 1583. For details on the CDS or PBQ qualification, contact the qualifications department at the BII on 01276 684449 or visit our website www.bii.org.
Notes to Editors
From May, Inndispensable will be offering the exam from 23 of its centres throughout the UK: Bedford, Bath, Bristol, Chorley, Cardiff, Coventry, East Midlands, Exeter, Harrogate, Huntington, Central London, Manchester, Marlow, Birmingham, Northampton, Petersfield, Romford, Tewksbury, Twickenham, West Midlands, Yorkshire, Chester, Ipswich.
-
The PBQ qualification comprises two units – the Barperson’s National Certificate, and Customer and Drinks Service. In order to achieve the qualification you must successfully complete both units.
-
The Customer and Drinks Service unit will give the barperson an introduction to the skills they will need to work professionally in the bar. The barperson will be able to identify the basic service standards they must meet when working in on-licensed premises. Once they have completed the unit the barperson should be familiar with preparing the bar for service, maintaining service skills, and cleaning, clearing and closing procedures, their role in delivering excellent customer care, maintaining working relationships, dealing with payment and security, and using selling skills in the workplace.
-
The Customer and Drinks Service unit is assessed by a short multiple-choice question examination. The examination consists of thirty questions, and twenty-four questions must be answered correctly to pass. The examination must be taken at a BIIAB approved centre.
The BII is the professional body for the licensed trade. It has around 15,500 members and last year BIIAB processed over 80,000 qualifications. Its mission is to promote high standards of professionalism throughout the licensed retail sector; to encourage new entrants into the industry, and to help them develop their long-term careers. To provide all our members with high quality information, skills and qualifications to help them succeed in their business activities.
