BII unveils guide to the new Licensing Act

10-Sep-2003

The British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) has published a guide to the new licensing regime in partnership with the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA).

The booklet, entitled "How To Get The Most Out Of The Licensing Act - A Licensees' Guide", offers information on the key points of the new legislation as well as advice on what licensees should be doing in the lead up to the transition process.

It also includes a useful contacts section and a tear-out slip to help licensees register their interest with local authorities, which will shortly be consulting on their own local licensing policies.

Uniquely, the guide has the support of all the key trade groups making it the first project of its kind. Groups from across the industry including the Federation of Licensed Victuallers Associations, the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers, the Guild of Master Victuallers, National Pubwatch and Licensed Victuallers Wales have all been involved and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport was also approached to check the detail of the Act.

John McNamara, Chief Executive of the BII, said: "I am delighted that we have been able to work together with all the key trade groups to produce this guide. Our members and those of the other groups are crying out for information on the new act and we hope this will help them to plan for the changes to come.

Our pledge to our members has always been to provide the support that they need to run successful and profitable businesses and we will continue to do that through initiatives like this."

All BII members and subscribers to the BII's business-building magazine, biiBUSINESS, will receive the guide free of charge in the next issue, along with members of the other organisations above.
