Search is on to find the best in the business

23-Sep-2003

The search has begun to find a winner for the pub industry’s top award with the launch of the BII’s 2004 Licensee of the Year competition, sponsored by drink producer and wholesaler, Matthew Clark. The award is run by the British Institute of Innkeeping – the professional member’s organisation for the licensed retail sector.

The competition aims to find the licensee or couple that epitomise the principles of the BII – high standards and professionalism in all aspects of their business. A panel of independent judges will be looking for professional licensees who are running the best pubs and bars in the country, and who have a passion for the industry and the ability to recruit, motivate and retain good staff.

The winner of the award is announced at the glittering Publican Awards ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House and will be presented with their title of BII 2004 Licensee of the Year, as well a trophy and a cheque for £1000.

Clive Mansell FBII and Alison Carter FBII (formerly of the Ship Inn, Owslebury) are the current holders of the title. Clive said: "It is a brilliant feeling to be rewarded by winning this top accolade. The publicity we have received has been amazing and the associated prestige has benefited us, our business and generated fantastic staff morale."

Chief Operating Officer at Matthew Clark, Richard Peters said: " As ever, Matthew Clark is honoured to be supporting this competition. We believe that promoting professionalism, training and development is key to the future of our industry. The BII’s Licensee of the Year award embodies these principles and we are delighted to be associated with this high profile competition."

Details on how to enter can be obtained by calling Brigitte Rushmore at the BII on 01276 417802.
