BII welcomes Social Responsibility Standards Document

18-Nov-2005

BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, today welcomed the launch of the Social Responsibility Standards document, which the organisation is promoting alongside 15 other trade organisations. The document sets the standards for alcohol retail including a sensible drinking message, responsible marketing and ensuring that retailers don’t sell the underage or intoxicated customers.

John McNamara, BII Chief Executive, said: “As the professional body for licensed retail, the BII fully endorses the standards document as a much needed initiative to set standards of social responsibility across all sectors of the industry.  It is a public declaration of the industry's determination to maintain high levels of social responsibility.

He added, “The BII has stood for and promoted the messages in the document for the last 24 years through the BII code of conduct which all 17,500 members are signed up to. It is heartening that there is now an industry-wide commitment to these standards.”
