Who is eligible to join?

BII membership is open to all those working within the licensed retail industry, from licensees, managers and club stewards to bar staff, students and those who supply services to the sector. There are also bespoke grades of membership for training professionals.

Are you currently working within a licensed outlet?Man with Bottles

  • Foundation - A professional looking for a career within the Industry, a prospective licensee, a bar person within the industry or a full time student.
  • Associate (AMBII) - a person who supervises the sale of alcohol, who's been working in the industry for approximately 6 months to 3 years
  • Full Member (MBII) - a person who supervises the sale of alcohol, who's been working in the industry for normally more than 3-4 years
  • Fellow (FBII) - a person who's been a Full Member for at least 1 year, and has considerable experience (normally over 7 years) in a supervisory role

Are you looking for a career within the industry, working part-time as a bar person, or studying for a hospitality qualification?

If you are looking for a career in the industry we have introduced BII Foundation Membership especially for you. This grade of membership provides information and advice on career progression, qualifications, job opportunities and also advice on how to become a successful licensee. Are you a trainer?Schools Project - Girls & Boys Studying

  • Full Member Training Professional (MBII.tp) - A person who's currently a trainer within the hospitality industry and has approximately 3-4 years' experience and/or relevant qualifications
  • Fellow Training Professional (FBII.tp)- A person who's been a Full Member Training Professional for at least 1 year and has considerable experience/further qualifications

Are you a door supervisor or door steward?

  • Associate(AMBII) - For anyone who has taken the door supervisor qualification (NCDS) or holders of the SIA Licence to Practise

Does your company provide a product or service to licensees?

  • Affiliate (ABII) - a person who holds an executive position within a company which supplies goods and/or services to the sector
