Sue Allen

Hospitality Trainer and Consultant

Sue has worked within breweries and pubs for over 25 years; starting as front of house staff and working in marketing and training. For the past couple of years, Sue has run her own training company within hospitality, providing training to Area Managers and BDMs as well as to site operators and their own teams. She has been a judge within the BII’s Licensee of the Year competition for the past 5 years.

Neil Morgan

Senior Director at Christie & Co.

Neil has been involved in the property market since 1982 and joined Christie & Co in 1994. Developing specific experience in the pub, restaurant, leisure and development sectors. He currently has national responsibility for Christie & Co’s activities in both the pub and restaurant sectors, primarily involved in small to large portfolio transactional / advisory / consultancy activities.

Paul Pavli

Hospitality Consultant

Paul started his hospitality career in 1986 and went on to run a small restaurant group in London with a number of high profile sites. Having worked in hospitality & leisure for over 30 years, Paul’s most recent post as Managing Director of Punch Taverns meant he was able to use his portfolio of skills to support hospitality businesses on their journeys.


Katy Moses

Managing Director at KAM Media

Katy is Founder and MD of KAM, an agency that provides actionable insight to the hospitality industry. She is passionate about pubs, bars and restaurants, and is also a BII Trustee, an advisor for both Pub Aid and Only a Pavement Away charities. Katy and KAM created Pedalling for Pubs, the annual hospitality cycling initiative that raises money for the LTC and OAPA.

Lisa Garside

Chief Business Operator at e-LTA

Lisa has been an accountant for thirty three years joining ELTA Partnership in April 2017. She was employed in practice for a Chartered Accountancy firm for seventeen years with her own portfolio of clients and and also has extensive experience within the licensed trade sector having owned her own bars and her industry experience means she is capable of offering in-depth insight.

Lee Woolley

Learning and Development Expert at Stonegate Pub Company

Lee trained as a chef at college and has worked in the industry since he was 18 years old. Lee's career has spanned Operations and HR, but has mainly focused on the area of his passion which is Learning & Organisation Development. Lee has worked in huge PLCs and for then last eleven years in venture capital owned by Stonegate focusing on leadership development, coaching & mentoring.

Sarah Milward

Central Operations Manager at Greene King Pub Partners

Working in the hospitality sector for 20 years, Sarah leads the Learning & Development team for Greene King Pub Partners, which is Greene King’s leased & tenanted division comprising around 1,000 pubs nationwide. Sarah and her team have a proven track record of investing in the training and development of licensees and their teams, providing support that makes a real difference in running a pub business.

Anthony Pender

Founder of Yummy Pub Company

Having founded Yummy Pubs in 2007, the company organically grew to six sites. In 2012 Anthony started the Perceptions program, offering work placement and training for homeless young people, in partnership with The New Horizon Youth Centre. In 2014 Anthony was appointed Chair of the BII and tasked with helping to turn the organisation around, both financially and operationally.

Mark Holden

Company Director of Inn Cornwall

Mark is based in Cornwall & operates three St Austell Brewery tenancies with his business partner Justin. They created Pub Grub delivery service as pivot in 2020 and are hands on operators who employ over 90 people with a passion for apprenticeships. Mark is a previous NITA’s Winner, LOYA semi finalist, Cornwall Apprenticeship Employer of the Year, Heart of the Community award winner & Be the Business Ambassador! 

Kris Gumbrell

Executive Chairman at Brewhouse and Kitchen ltd.

Kris has been in the pub industry for all of his working life, he started working as a glass collector in a South Wales Working mens club alongside his mother. He undertook a diploma in Hotel and catering Operations and in 2012, Kris, with a former colleague and long term friend Simon Bunn, established Brewhouse and Kitchen ltd, which has been rapidly built into a 23 brewpub business.

David Hage

Business Owner of The Secret Pub Company & 2019 LOYA Winner

David owns The Secret Pub Company with his business partner of 12 years, Mark Osborne. As a Winner of the 2019 BII LOYA, he has built an award winning trio of great gastro pubs in Nottinghamshire, The Railway, The Radcliffe & The Plough. Collectively they have won 15 industry awards in 5 years as the business looks to the future for further sites. He has an obsessive passion for looking after his guests and team!

Sally Whelan

Director, HGEM

Sally Whelan has enjoyed a long career in both hospitality and food retail. A founding Director of HGEM, Sally saw the opportunity to support hospitality businesses to optimise performance and improve standards in guest experience. With investment in technical innovation and solutions, HGEM offers LOYA Quarter Finalists a view of their business from the customer's perspective via their Mystery Diner reports.

Kelly and Ashley McCarthy

Owners of Ye Olde Sun Inn, York

Ashley & Kelly are no strangers to LOYA, finalists in 2009 & winners in 2013, Ashley has been a judge for 6 years. The duo moved to their venue in 2004, obtaining the freehold in 2009. Diversity and reinvestment has kept their business at the top of its game for all these years with Ashley being chef and chocolate sculptor and Kelly developing the Fairfax Distillery brand of rum and gin.

Mark Osborne

Business Owner of The Secret Pub Company & 2019 LOYA Winner

Mark has been a chef since leaving school and has never looked back because food is his passion - a day rarely goes by without some kind of research for his job. The Secret Pub Company works to the ethos that great food and service should be at the epicentre of the business. Boasting great teams at all three pubs, the company is ambitious and look to expand further and Mark says he thrives on seeing the team flourish.

James Nye

Managing Director at Anglian Country Inns

James has used his 20 years of experience in the pub and restaurant industry to help build his family business to an eight strong hospitality group. With an eclectic mix of pubs, hotels and restaurants across East Anglia, James has a proven track record for delivering award-winning destination food led sites. James also has a wider interest in the industry and sits on the UKHospitality Council as well as LOYA judging panels.

Jess, Molly & Ellie

Molly, Jess and Ellie, together have over twenty five years’ experience in Marketing, Communications and Design. The team has been looking at the ways pubs communicate with their customers online, via their websites and social media pages and regularly feature these on the BII’s own channels. They run all of the BII awards and events, as well as producing guides for members and the weekly INNfocus newsletter.
