 The Mucky Duck - Winchester

The Mucky Duck is a friendly laid-back, modestly appointed tavern offering sports on TV, global bites & a quaint garden area. The Mucky Duck pride themselves on a patented hard-working, easy-going attitude and love of sports and they join The King Alfred and The Roebuck sites under the stewardship of Jayne Gillin to be awarded with Sustainability Champion status.

The Winchester-located site prides themselves on being the go-to place for major sporting events, often screening the ones everyone wants to see, such as international football tournaments and Six Nations rugby.

As is the case with many venues when screening these events, Jayne has removed single-use plastic cups, as per the new regulations, positively impacting their waste reduction. She has also invested in more efficient fixtures and fittings, including smart thermostats and monitoring technology in order to actively manage energy usage.

Jayne is a big advocate of having everyone involved on the sustainability journey, with staff given a lengthy induction and training package on the sustainable practices in place at the Mucky Duck. The matter is also discussed frequently in staff meetings, with Jayne aiming to lead by example where possible.

Although Jayne has made significant improvements to make the venue more sustainable, she is keen to keep the changes coming. It is something that she sees as an ongoing project and aims to inspire others in the local community with her work across all her venues.

We are delighted to award Jayne and the team at The Mucky Duck with Sustainability Champion status and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive in the future.
