What were the highlights in your role as Chair of the North West North Wales Region in 2018?
Developing a new pro-active council. They helped the region to focus on things that mattered and to bring ideas to the table that were a bit different to the ‘norm’. For example, we ran an event in May that was totally different than anything we have done before – a Comedy Social Evening! It was fantastically well supported with 90+ people attending. Some say I have a few comedians on my council, well we really do have one (Emma Kearney, who is a professional comedian). Emma is also my Vice Chair and we couldn’t have run the event without her enthusiasm and expertise.
You recently held a very well attended AGM, can you tell us about the day?
A lot of work goes into the event both from key council members, who give up their time for free, and the team at BII HQ – Molly, Rebekah and Natalie to name a few. The “fruits of our labours” was that it was really well attended and the feedback following the event was tremendous. Not only did attendees see a great balance of presenters, they had plenty of time during the event to chat with them, network with other members and talk with council members. We also created a “goody bag” for people to take away with them – this was made up of gifts from presenters and products from other suppliers that couldn’t attend. Our hosts on the day, Robinsons Brewery also contributed some bottles of beer!
How can Members get more involved with your Region and its Council?
Talk to me and the council, we are very contactable. Let us know what we can do for you, let us know what events you would like to see, let us know if you would like to host an event and please, please, please send me some “good news stories” about what’s going on in your pubs and businesses. And if you need support give us a call, my direct number is 07967 193379, call me.
What is new in your Region for 2019?
We are going to run a couple of events this year including another comedy event planned for the 3rd April, to be held at The Frog and Bucket in Manchester. This is going to be even bigger than the one we ran earlier this year
With improved access to our regional members’ contact details, we are going to make a point of keeping in touch with members, new and old, in order to improve overall communication with them.
What BII benefits or services do you see as being most useful to Members?
The employment helpline, legal helpline, the online HR pack and templates are invaluable. PXL insurance always figures highly on feedback as well. We have over 45 BII Marketplace Partners who offer exclusive discounts for our BII members. Call me “old school” but I also think the BII gives our members a sense of pride to be part of the only professional organisation, for individuals, in the licensed trade.
