Firstly can I say on behalf of the whole team at the BII, that our thoughts are with all of you at this difficult time for you and your families. It is almost impossible to fathom the rate of change in our lives over the last 2 weeks.
All of your BII team, our partners and industry supporters are working hard to provide the very best support to you - so here is what we are doing:
Critical Government Support
Our priority right now is to continue to push with the other key industry bodies;
UKH, BBPA, SIBA, CAMRA & Pub is the Hub to get the required financial support to you all as soon as possible.
We meet regularly (remotely, of course!) to ensure there is one joined up approach to Government and that has been about supporting cash flow at this critical time.
We are encouraged by the scale of the support announced, however, it must now be delivered rapidly. As I write this we are still awaiting significant detail including clarification on support for the self-employed.
Providing vital information
- Up-to-date news on Government financial support and how to access it
- Easy to digest "Guides" put together by our team in-house
- Actions to take right now: locking sites down, reducing costs, setting up takeaway and deliveries, sharing ideas from other members, how to prepare and plan for the future.
The BII exists to provide independent and trusted support for you, our members, for when it matters and it has never mattered more than right now. If you have ideas of how we can help further then we would love to hear from you.
Keeping you connected
We are continuing to update all of our member content throughout the day. Our focus is to give you all clear, actionable information wherever possible.
Website – check in at regularly for updates – www.bii.org
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & LinkedIn – all channels share vital information, but most importantly, keep you, our members, connected to us and your colleagues. Never has it been more important to keep lines of communication open.
INNFocus – our weekly e-newsletter is being sent more frequently as part of our Coronavirus updates.
Helpdesks – all of our helplines are fully operational – we are only a phone call away.
Licensee of the Year 2020
A key part of what the BII stands for is to recognise the very best professional standards across the industry. Our Licensee of the Year Award (LOYA) was launched earlier this year with a fantastic level of entrants. This industry leading competition, with an unparalleled level of independent assessment, sets the benchmark for excellence in the sector. Our previous year finalists have been real ambassadors of our industry and the BII, sharing their real points of difference as operators.
As we cannot get out to judge these venues currently, clearly the competition is paused, however, it is just that – a pause, and we will relaunch it at the very earliest opportunity to showcase and celebrate the very best in our industry – and never have our members deserved that recognition more.
Your BII Team moving forward
Your BII team remains incredibly focused on supporting you at this critical time. I joined the BII six months ago to take over the role of CEO from Mike Clist following a transition period fully supported by him. Despite officially cutting his hours down, Mike has been working tirelessly over the last few weeks to do whatever he can to support you – his passion for the industry and for the BII has never been more obvious.
As this transition now completes, I wanted to update you that Mike has agreed to continue as part of the BII team as a non-executive director, providing ongoing support in particular with the Pubco and Landlord Helpline.
I want to thank Mike for all of his help over the last few months and his commitment to continue supporting you all within the BII team, both at this critical current time and moving forward.
I want to assure you all, as your Chief Executive, we will continue to do everything we can to help you through these challenging times.
Thank you to you all for your ongoing support of your BII.
