Diary date: June 15th is Beer Day Britain (national beer day)! Beer Day Britain has grown quickly into a popular annual event since it started in 2015, and this year Father’s Day is the following day, Sunday June 16th, so there is big potential for a weekend of increased beer sales.
Beer Day Britain was instigated in 2015 by Jane Peyton, an award winning beer sommelier, drinks educator and broadcaster. It has received great support from across the beer and pub trade. The idea is for everyone who sells and drinks beer to do what they can to celebrate the national drink.
In previous years pubs have hosted beer festivals, music events, fancy dress parties, beer & food matching dinners, and promoted special offers on beer and meals.
The focus of Beer Day Britain is the National ‘Cheers to Beer’ at 7pm on the day, to unite beer lovers across the country. It entails raising a glass, saying ‘Cheers To Beer’ and posting a social media message using the hashtag #CheersToBeer. Social media is always busy in the lead up to and on Beer Day Britain itself. For Beer Day Britain 2018 there were 8.25 million engagements on Twitter and the hashtags trended over two days, even beating the FIFA World Cup into second place!
Jane Peyton said: “We have so much for be proud of with Britain’s vibrant brewing scene and the fact that our pubs are a cornerstone of the social health of the nation. Without beer, pubs would be wine bars. Now we have an official day to celebrate beer in Britain so please join us to have a national party and to make Beer Day Britain the best beer fiesta in the world!”
