How can Sky Sports customers make the most of sport in their venue?
Delivering a premium bar experience matched with a passion for showing top quality sport, The Box has built an army of loyal customers since opening in Leeds city centre in September 2018.
The Box team aim to deliver on their promise of a game-changing experience for sports fans under the mantra EAT, DRINK, PLAY, PARTY. With a number of HD widescreen TVs scattered across the venue to ensure the best possible viewing experience for customers, the bar is also kitted out with two shuffleboards, an electronic dartboard area and host live music every Friday and Saturday night.
Part of the Arc Inspirations group of premium bars, The Box is an award-winning venue which prides itself on universal appeal and sharp focus on offering high quality food and drink in a superb atmosphere. General manager Danny Lewis understands the importance of providing high quality sports content to complement the bar’s premium offer.
“Sky Sports is incredibly important to us as a business as it’s the superior sports broadcaster and that really matches the superior food and drink offer at The Box. There is a tremendous demand for burgers and pizzas, and whilst this is a well-trodden path for a sports bar, we make sure they are of the highest quality.”
Alongside the British burgers and Neapolitan pizza, the bar has a fantastic drink offering available to guests, including a wide selection of craft beers from local brewers and Espresso and Pornstar Martinis on draught.
“When a big match is on the bar can get extremely busy at peak times, either just before the game starts and half time, having these key cocktails on draught saves our staff crucial time,” Danny says.
With Leeds being such a diverse city with thousands of university students from across the country, The Box caters for fans of every sport. Football is a massive pull for customers with The Box showing Premier League and EFL action throughout the week, but rugby league, pay-per-view boxing nights, cricket and F1 also very popular. Danny says there has been increasing interest in women’s sport as well, off the back of the recent football and netball World Cups.
“The value that Sky Sports brings to the business, especially at weekends, is that it keeps customers in the venue all day, driving footfall and increasing spend per head,” says Danny.
To create an electric atmosphere when a big sporting occasion is on at the venue, The Box has a carefully curated music playlist to help build that sense of occasion. While the customers in the venue might not need too much encouragement to get excited for the big match, those small touches can help contribute and makes The Box the place to be when the action is screened. Once the final whistle has blown, DJs or live bands often take to the stage to keep the party atmosphere in full swing.
“We really push the team to deliver that fantastic atmosphere for customers. It comes from when we first hire them – we want them to have an interest and be invested in sport. We make sure they know their roles and responsibilities for big events, so they are clear on how to deliver a great customer experience.”
In terms of marketing what events are being screened, there are plenty of signals in venue that tell customers what’s coming up such as posters and blackboards that are regularly refreshed, with the bar’s digital and social media channels being updated centrally.
The sporting months ahead promises to be full of pub-packing action for The Box. Alongside the Premier League and EFL football, sports fans can enjoy the climax of the F1 season, NFL, Super League and Anthony Joshua’s eagerly-anticipated rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr.&nbs
